Daily Grind

A simple addition to the advancement of coffee knowledge – Grind to Order.

Often people ask me what the key elements are to getting good coffee at home, whether through espresso, filter or plunger, and my answer will always have to be “buy fresh and grind to order”. The investment in a grinder is priceless, Hario Hand Grinders can do a lot for a good coffee experience and are well priced. Alternatively a mini electric burr grinder is ideal for a higher output.

It is also important to understand that coffee ages, while there are different schools of thought on this I like to say that a good espresso coffee should be brewed 3-4 days after roast while a filter coffee 1-2 days. Coffee has a life, so don’t think about hanging on to coffee 2 months after roasting or buy a kilo because it is more cost effective – buy small amounts often instead, you will enjoy it this way.

Ground coffee lasts a very short time, so grind what you need and avoid excess.

Enjoy,

-H
